Restaurant Interior Design – Pier 76 Fish Grill

By , August 9, 2013 8:02 pm

An Interior Finishes & Design Board helps the client envision a completed project prior to purchasing and helps finalize a concept. This was constructed at an early phase of the project, and now seeing the final product alongside the Finishes & Design Board shows a cohesive project from conceptualization through construction!

We designed this fast casual seafood restaurant in downtown Long Beach, California, to have a clean ambiance with rustic details yet modern finishings to heighten the feeling of the same things in the food.  At Pier 76 Fish Grill, you’ll find just that.  A beautifully grilled piece of Barramundi with fresh grill marks, served with a side of curly kale and tomato salad or Vermont white cheddar mac & cheese, set off on a miniature stainless steel baking sheet and a waxed butcher paper.  It’s details like this that set in motion the design concept for Pier 76.

This was the Interior Finishes & Design Board that we put together over a year ago to help the client envision a completed project prior to making any moves.  These design boards help finalize a concept, provide options for change and create visual cohesion prior to any purchasing an not even necessarily with a specific building or space in mind.

Now seeing the final product alongside the Finishes & Design Board shows a project from conceptualization through construction in what we consider a successful way!

Custom Tables with branding creates a distinct feel that sets Pier 76 Fish Grill apart from other restaurants.

Details like having custom tables with branding creates a distinct feel that sets Pier 76 Fish Grill apart from other restaurants.

You see similar details in the mixing of metals such as iron, vintage steel and stainless steel, as well as the slate chair rail and wainscot that complements the high ceilings while simultaneously creating a sense of intimacy.

We did a remodel for an entire home in Arcadia, CA for a very sweet family that wanted their home done with modern touches, distinctive finishes and user-friendly space planning.  We worked closely with the architect and contractors to help the family create their dream home and this is what came up with!  This interior design project was a lot of fun and it’s great to see that beautiful and modern can also be budget-friendly!

L.A. stands for Luxurious Apartment!

By , August 3, 2010 9:21 pm

Los Angeles is known for high-end glamour and funky retreats.  Our client Amber wanted a little of that incorporated into her upscale townhome where she lives in the heart of Culver City.

The furniture consists of a nice combination of custom-made products and off-the floor items.  The centerpieces of the house are custom-crafted: the semi-round dining banquette and big, comfy sofa.  In the interest of budget and time, we built around these with off-the floor items from a variety of places to create a cohesive space.  We found the coffee table at a boutique furniture store in Silverlake and the guest bed right out of a modern home decor showroom.

Our client had a nice start with accessories but claimed she never knew how to arrange them or what to do with them.  We added to the collection but were still able to use many of her accessories and put them together in a way that creates a cohesive feeling.  We love the tall skinny yellow vase we found and we put it next to her Target frame and it just seems to work!

Nothing finishes a home like the unique combination of art we put on our walls.  We framed two heirloom newspaper articles from bygone eras, and found great limited edition prints by Chariklia Zarris at a nice price.  If you’re regardful, you can even mix in catalog art items like the art set above the bed – as long as you don’t one-stop-shop.

The modern and clean lines juxtaposed with whimsical and graphic interest shows off Amber’s great taste and provides her a relaxing and fun place to call home at the end of a busy day.  Creating a beautiful retreat for this L.A. hospitality professional that mirrors the elegance of her working life was our goal, and we believe it is achieved in this space!

Things I Love #2

By , March 16, 2010 5:21 pm

I am digging the graphic art by former textile designer Chariklia Zarris.  Originally stumbled upon her work on art.com while getting inspiration for artwork for one of my clients.   I can see these in anything from streamlined modern home to a high-end traditional home, or anywhere in between!  Aren’t they gorgeous??!

CDs for Chinese Cafe in Temple City

By , September 2, 2009 11:39 am

Finally!  I am finally finished with the construction documents with Twen Ma Architects for the Kang Kang Cafe in Temple City, CA.  Where the heck is Temple City?  Well, it’s somewhere between Pasadena and West Covina :)

This is an existing building remodel at the downtown city center, with an entrance from the garage parking and also from the street.  We’re finalizing finishes right now, but it’s a streamlined and modern design for a simple and quick dining solution.   Have a look!  I can’t wait – in a couple months I get to dine here!

Commercial Exterior in Santa Monica

By , July 21, 2009 4:04 pm

These images are quick Photoshop mock-ups for a commercial exterior in Santa Monica.  These mock-ups range from contemporary to more traditional in color and style, including changes in the exterior lighting, doors and awnings.  The first image is the dated, existing exterior to be modified.
