Restaurant Interior Design – Pier 76 Fish Grill

By , August 9, 2013 8:02 pm

An Interior Finishes & Design Board helps the client envision a completed project prior to purchasing and helps finalize a concept. This was constructed at an early phase of the project, and now seeing the final product alongside the Finishes & Design Board shows a cohesive project from conceptualization through construction!

We designed this fast casual seafood restaurant in downtown Long Beach, California, to have a clean ambiance with rustic details yet modern finishings to heighten the feeling of the same things in the food.  At Pier 76 Fish Grill, you’ll find just that.  A beautifully grilled piece of Barramundi with fresh grill marks, served with a side of curly kale and tomato salad or Vermont white cheddar mac & cheese, set off on a miniature stainless steel baking sheet and a waxed butcher paper.  It’s details like this that set in motion the design concept for Pier 76.

This was the Interior Finishes & Design Board that we put together over a year ago to help the client envision a completed project prior to making any moves.  These design boards help finalize a concept, provide options for change and create visual cohesion prior to any purchasing an not even necessarily with a specific building or space in mind.

Now seeing the final product alongside the Finishes & Design Board shows a project from conceptualization through construction in what we consider a successful way!

Details like having custom tables with branding creates a distinct feel that sets Pier 76 Fish Grill apart from other restaurants.

You see similar details in the mixing of metals such as iron, vintage steel and stainless steel, as well as the slate chair rail and wainscot that complements the high ceilings while simultaneously creating a sense of intimacy.

Furniture and Finish Boards for Mediterranean Home in Newport Coast

By , November 27, 2012 12:45 pm

We recently had the opportunity to present an entire house design board for a gorgeous home in Newport Coast in Crystal Cove!  This was our first chance to really do something beautiful in Orange County for a change from the LA scenery.  The Mediterranean Villa style homes there are all breathtaking and many with an ocean view – very peaceful!

We wanted to design something that felt comfortable and warm that also coordinated with the taste of our client and the architecture of the house.  They brought in a Feng Shui expert to guide us in making thoughtful design choices throughout the process.  Please take a look at what we chose to present to our client for furniture, fabrics and finishes throughout!

Design Board for Harris Cafe

By , August 2, 2012 2:53 pm

Hey there!  We’ve been pretty busy over here at Enliven Studios working on some fantastic projects!

This is a presentation design board for a cafe on the ground floor of an office building in the City of Industry.  It has been very exciting working with Twen Ma Architects putting together a floor plan, finishes and elevations to reflect our clients needs!  They were looking for a 1950′s inspired checkerboard diner feel combined with a modern tea and noodles type of cafe!  This was such a fun challenge because one wouldn’t think the two could come together so elegantly.

Take a look and let us know how we did on the presentation board!  We are looking forward to breaking ground and getting construction underway so you can see the finished product :)

The Tuscan Country Dining Chair Challenge

By , July 20, 2011 2:00 pm

Here at Enliven Studios, we have been working hard for an exciting project in Walnut, CA.  We are working with architect Twen Ma to build a new construction home of 9,000 s.f. including pool house, basement wine cellar, and ten en-suite bedrooms!  Very cool project, our client desires a “Tuscan Country” look and it has been challenging and exciting designing this home and putting together finishes.

One of the challenges we faced was in the dining room, putting together our finishes and design together with furniture.  For flooring, we have this dark walnut herringbone wood flooring design, similar to this one below.

Then, we found this FABULOUS dining table from Century Furniture, whom we love because all of their products are made in U.S.A. and they practice Sustainable efforts on top of that.  What more could you want? OH, how about a gorgeous dining table that fits eight, extends to seat twelve!!?!  We love this dining table so much that it inspired our ceiling design for this formal dining room! Don’t you just love the detail of the inlay?

Also shown below are the China Cabinet & Hutch, Sideboard Server, Dining Chandelier (two, one for either side of the table), and wall sconces.

As I presented the dining room chairs, our client denied me on upholstered chairs!  I was aghast as he insisted on all-wood chairs with no upholstery for easy maintenance and long-lasting style.  Well, we searched and searched and searched for good looking dining chairs that fit the “Tuscan Country” look we were going for.  Most of the dining chairs I found that weren’t upholstered were very bistro-looking, very casual, or just plain UGLY.  Then, I put the feelers out there to some of my favorite vendors and showrooms and was lead to Artitalia Group!  DING! DING! DING!  Here is the winning dining chair that stole our hearts and fit in perfectly with our design.

What we love about this chair!
A) The challenge was to break up all the wood from the flooring to the furniture, and more wood was challenging us, but this finish with the classic dark tone on the seat is perfect!
B) The style of this chair is just perfectly comfortable with that hint of Tuscan whimsy style that gives it a more high-end look to fit into a beautiful formal dining room.
C) Artitalia Group has a PLETHORA of finish options to give it many looks whether it be rustic, formal, country chic, or clean and pressed.  You name it, they can do it!  And for a great price!

Feel free to contact us if you are interested in a design consult or if you are having a similar design dilemma and need a designer’s eye!  We are here to help, assist and make your space- whether it work or home- the most comfortable, personal and efficient!

Exterior Elevations for Venice Craftsman Residence

By , September 15, 2009 2:57 pm

Here I did two options of one residential exterior in Venice, CA for Brenda Bell & Associates.  Our client wanted to see multiple options in the Craftsman-style that already existed on her home, yet was not apparent in the front entry design.  These options provided her with some much-needed curb appeal with sophistication and cohesiveness.

Option one has a centered-step entry with a wide, wrapped porch, whereas the second option has right side steps that enter to a covered porch entry.

CDs for Chinese Cafe in Temple City

By , September 2, 2009 11:39 am

Finally!  I am finally finished with the construction documents with Twen Ma Architects for the Kang Kang Cafe in Temple City, CA.  Where the heck is Temple City?  Well, it’s somewhere between Pasadena and West Covina :)

This is an existing building remodel at the downtown city center, with an entrance from the garage parking and also from the street.  We’re finalizing finishes right now, but it’s a streamlined and modern design for a simple and quick dining solution.   Have a look!  I can’t wait – in a couple months I get to dine here!

Spud! Organic Grocery Delivery Interior Design & Mural

By , August 19, 2009 2:49 pm

Hi There!  I finally got around to taking some good photographs of the interiors that I did for the Spud! Organic Grocery Delivery warehouse/office interiors.  My friend Shawn who works there also used to be a professional painter, so he painted the interior walls and I used the colors to do the mural in the entry.  The challenge was to use extremely environmentally friendly paints, so we found and used the new Freshaire paint brand that you can actually find at Home Depot.  Zero VOC and low fumes.  It actually didn’t smell paint-y at all!  I love challenges like this.  The best part is that I already love Spud! and their organic groceries make my life way easy.  Become a fan of Spud! Los Angeles on Facebook!

These images are quick Photoshop mock-ups for a commercial exterior in Santa Monica.  These mock-ups range from contemporary to more traditional in color and style, including changes in the exterior lighting, doors and awnings.  The first image is the dated, existing exterior to be modified.
